My Story
When Mathilde Anne tells her story, she’s speaking for everyone who listens. Whether hauntingly beauty, or lyrically shooting from the hip, Mathilde speaks her mind. Wildly writing from personal experience and feeling, her sights are always set on offering a sense of understanding a representation.
Mathilde's inspirations span a wide range of artists, from contemporary figures like Gracie Abrams, Weezer, Julia Stone, and Sir Chloe, to legendary icons such as Blondie and The Cranberries. Growing up in a musical household means her limbs and soul are now deeply rooted in music of all genres and timelines.
In collaboration with Melbourne’s prolific producer James Seymour (FEELDS, Merpire, Jess Fairlie), Mathilde released her debut single, "I’ve Had Enough," in March 2022 under Mornington Peninsula label, Sandhill Records. Written with Max Wilson (MAXON), Nayomi Pattuwage (Like Bear, Heaps Stoked Productions), and Cheryl Beattie (The Music Industry School of Music), the single paints a vivid picture of frustration and emotional turmoil in relationships.
In July 2022, Mathilde released 'Dancing in the Living'; another James Seymour-produced masterpiece. DITLR was written after being selected to create a Covid-19 recovery song for the Mornington Peninsula Shire's ‘262 Project’. Mathilde opens up about her body dysmorphia and what Mathilde describes as “a very bitchy” eating disorder. It depicts a kaleidoscope of emotions that were only exacerbated by the Melbourne lockdowns. This track is special to Mathilde's story, and gave momentum to her desire to help those struggling with the same trials.
Mathilde's debut headline show in 2022 marked the beginning of a wave of performances at some of Australia’s most iconic venues, including the Oxford Arts Factory, The Northcote Social Club, and more recently, The Corner Hotel. In November 2022, she and her team at Sandhill Records secured two grants (Creative Victoria ‘Music Works’ funding and Frankston City Council’s Arts Fund) to support the creation of her debut LP, set for release in August 2024.
Continuing her collaboration with James Seymour (Elizabeth M. Drummond, Merpire), Mathilde released "To Be Honest" (2023), a track that captures both softness and grit. “It was one of my favorite songs to record. It came together instantly,” Mathilde says. “James and I aimed to create a piece that balances contrasting guitar patterns, which became a recurring theme throughout the album.” Co-written with Max Wilson (MAXON), the song serves as a cathartic release, offering listeners a therapeutic outlet for expressing hurt and frustration.
Mathilde’s latest single, "Break," stayed in the top 10 of the AMRAP metro charts for three weeks. Featuring vocals from Sam Knight of indie outfit Des Cortez, "Break" embraces Mathilde’s self-proclaimed “drama-queen” status with heart-wrenching violins that create a theatrical stage for their voices to intertwine and cascade.
Gearing up to release her debut album in August 2024, Mathilde’s next single, "Haunt You (When I’m Gone),"was released in July 2024.
